If you’re into Android customization, you must have heard of the immensely popular, circular Pixel-style icon packs which are hitting millions of downloads on the Google Play Store. While those icons may give your home screen a consistent feel, you’ve probably noticed how little creativity is put into most of those packs. This is what LinkedDesigns‘ Quantum Dots aims to change, combining a beautiful, Material Design aesthetic, with uniformity and consistency. Read our review, and find out why Quantum Dots has quickly made its way to the list of my all-time favourites.

Quantum Dots is hand-crafted from the ground up, based on Google’s circular icons style from Android Nougat and the much-loved Material Design (which was quite hard to find in those round icons on the Pixel). The icons are lovely to look at with vibrant colours, tons of attention to detail, subtle shadows, and bold shapes.

Instead of slapping the original onto a white circle, like many competitors do, Quantum Dots approaches things a little bit differently, converting icons into a circular shape, while keeping the main branding aspects from the original image. Additionally, the icon pack has some out-of-the-grid craft going on in many of the icons (essentially, stuff sticking out of the circle), which makes them look really interesting and unique.

Apart from app icons, Quantum Dots packs in folder, app drawer, and generic icons, as well as tons of alternative designs to choose from. Not all icon packs come with this functionality, and it’s great to see that LinkedDesigns thought about it.

Quantum Dots comes with over 1000 icons on board, which means that most of your apps should be themed. For the unthemed icons, there is icon masking, and while it doesn’t achieve an effect as good as the themed icons, it’s definitely way better than nothing. If you’re eager to get all your apps themed, there is a free server-based request tool baked into the dashboard.

While icons are, of course, the main focus of Quantum Dots, the app also packs in 24 beautiful wallpapers that perfectly match the circular icons. Quantum Dots supports the majority of popular launchers out there, so you definitely shouldn’t have any trouble getting it onto your home screen.

Updates come about every two weeks and while they don’t bring too many new icons, important fixes and redesigns are always made quickly.

Quantum Dots will set you back $1.40, but that’s almost nothing for beautiful icons like these. If you’re looking for something fresh and unique, this is definitely the icon pack you should add to your wish list.
