You may or may not have seen the news about the Pixel 2 smartphone, from Google. If you haven’t already, I’m afraid it isn’t necessarily good. Of course, it’s still too early to call it “news”, as we’re likely a few months away from any sort of official announcement. But, considering our source, it’s still worth sharing.
I won’t string you along here. The Pixel 2? It’s likely going to have thick bezels and won’t come with a headphone jack. Going bezel-less has been the trend for most 2017 flagships, but it looks like Google is straying from that. According to our favorite phone leaker, @evleaks, it won’t have a dual-camera setup or a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, either.
If true, this would likely make some smartphone buyers look in other directions. I myself might even be one of them. As an audiophile, I just can’t see myself not being able to use wired headphones. Of course, there are stellar Bluetooth headphones on the market, but the quality isn’t the same as a hardwired connection.
Speaking of music, it also appears that Google opted to go with front-facing speakers, which is cool and all, but it doesn’t make up for the fact that I won’t be able to use any of my wired headphones with my phone. And wired headphones make up 95% of my collection.
Also notable, it sounds like HTC is making the 2017 Pixel and LG making the 2017 Pixel XL. Last year, it was HTC that made both models. It’ll be interesting to see how this year’s models differ from one another, considering they’re coming from two different manufacturers.
Rounding out the leak, it looks like squeeze-sensitive frames are on board as well, similar to the Edge Sense feature found on this year’s U11 flagship. Again, another bell and whistle that very few people likely care about.
So, I wanna know – if the leaks prove to be true, are you still pumped for the 2017 Pixel, or Pixel 2, whatever they end up calling it? Drop a vote in our poll, then vent your frustrations (or voice your joy) in the comment thread.
