Philips Hue Starter Kit

Oh, man! I am so stoked to be writing this, right now! I know I’m a little late (OK, more than a little), but I got a Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance A19 Starter Kit in the mail today, and I had no other choice than to share my excitement in the form of an unboxing video.

Before we unbox, I’d like to take a moment to thank the wonderful folks at Philips for sending these our way. We’re working on a round-up and series of reviews of the best smart home products of 2017, and this is one of the first few devices to hit our review desk.

Also, to add a small disclaimer, this isn’t our full review of the Philips Hue Starter Pack, more of an introduction to the device, what’s in the box, and a quick look at them in action. I’ll be doing a full review once I have more time to get comfortable with the setup and do some testing.

Here’s what you get with the 3-bulb starter pack. We got the hookup on this one, as Philips actually sent out an additional spare bulb, which was awesome of them to do. (Thanks again, #TeamPhilips!)

Have a look at our unboxing video below, followed by a quick 30-second video of the lights in action. It’s worth mentioning that I “splurged” and treated myself to the Hue Disco app, for $3.99.

The app lets you use your Android device as a sensor to monitor and reactively change the color of your Hue lights. It’s well worth the four bucks, so do yourself a favor and buy it, if you have a Hue setup.

Enough of my rambling – let’s get in this box, dammit!

Now, here’s a look at them in action. I uploaded this video to my personal YouTube because I was jamming to some Stone Sour and didn’t want to deal with copyright claims on the Android Unfiltered YouTube channel.

Stay tuned, guys and gals! This is going to be a fun review, especially once we start figuring out the Harmony Home Control integrations and this series of the best smart home products of 2017 starts coming together.

Until next time!
