After a month and a half with the Pixel 2, you’d think the hype would have died down a bit for me by now. Quite the contrary, my friends. I’m still finding awesome tips and tricks to share, and today I have one more to add to the collection, in the form of Now Playing Stories.
Now Playing Stories, from Manuel Wrage, is a solution to one of the minor annoyances that comes along with using the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL’s Now Playing feature. For those who don’t know what I’m referring to here, Now Playing is a feature on Google’s new phones that identifies songs it hears playing in the background.
By default, Now Playing works pretty well. It does a good job at identifying most songs, especially those that are super popular. The only hindrance, up until now, is that there was no way to keep tabs on the songs Now Playing recognizes. No history, if you will.
Now Playing Stories takes care of this issue by creating a simple log of all the songs Now Playing identifies. And keeping track of these songs is only the beginning. NPS also allows you to open every track of your ‘Now Playing History’ in Google Play Music, Spotify, YouTube, or any of your other favorite music apps.
There’s also Last.FM scrobbling, if you’re into that sort of thing.
This is perfect for listening to the radio, going to concerts, or a night of dancing at your favorite club. Now, you don’t have to try and remember which songs you heard. Everything is automatically logged for you.
You can grab this app for free, with full functionality, or pay $0.99 to remove in-app ads and add a “Night Mode” and customizable accent colors. Keep in mind, you’ll need a Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL for this to work, as they’re the only two devices that currently support Now Playing.
I mean, c’mon, friends – less than a buck is well worth showing some support to the developer for his efforts here. And you can always get some free Play Store cash by answering a survey or two, so it might not cost you a single red cent.
