It looks as though the LG G6 will be the final phone in LG’s G series. The company is laying to rest the brand it created some six years ago, according to a report from Digital Daily (via The Investor). LG isn’t jumping out of the smartphone game altogether, however, rather it will rebrand its flagship series under a new moniker.

“LG is preparing a new brand strategy for the G series in the first half of the year. Numbering the phone with a two-digit number and rebranding the phone with a new name are some of the options on the table.”

Rest in peace, G series

It is said that the change will come in early 2018, likely with what we all thought would be the LG G7. We should know more come February when Mobile World Congress kicks off in Barcelona. If history holds up, we should see the new device on sale sometime in March.

There hasn’t been much buzz about LG’s next flagship. That’s likely due to the lackluster LG G6 (which I still own), and the next-to-forgotten V30. It’ll be interesting to see if the company can turn things around with whatever it’s working on behind the scenes right now.

Only time will tell, I guess.
