Camera NX

One of the best features the Pixel 2 camera has to offer is Portrait Mode. The deviceĀ uses AI and machine learning to produce amazing portrait-style shots with a blurred background or “bokeh” effect. There’s just one thing, however. Up until now, Portrait Mode was only available on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. But, thanks to a mod called Camera NX, a few older phones can join in on the fun now, too.

Camera NX, released by Charles Chow, works on the original Pixel and Pixel XL, as well as the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. It’s a modded APK file based on the stock Google Camera app, and it unlocks the highly-coveted Portrait Mode for the aforementioned devices.

Chow, an Android community member known for porting newer features to older phones, has generously provided an APK file for our downloading pleasure. On top of that, Chow also managed to get ARCore Stickers working on these older devices, although they do come with a few bugs.

You can find everything you need at this link.

A pretty snazzy way to ring in the new year, if you own any of the devices Camera NX is compatible with.
