Update: Looks like all is well (for Pixel XL owners, at very least) as some users are starting successfully install Android 8.0, as confirmed by another of Artem’s posts.
It looks like even some Pixel and Nexus device owners aren’t able to get a taste of Android Oreo yet, despite the fact that OTA’s are already on their way out the door.
We’ve received a number of reports from users who have the OTA available, but that it’s immediately failing to install. Even Artem Russakovskii, the owner of Android Police, is having issues with getting Android 8.0 onto his Google Pixel XL, as you can see in the screenshot from his Google+ post below.
No Android Oreo OTAs for you!
He’s on the latest developer build, so we’re not 100% sure if that’s what’s causing the install to fail, and without a Pixel device of our own to test, we’re pretty well useless here. But for now, we suggest that you steer clear of the OTA route and use the factory images to install Oreo, instead.
You can find those links in our post from earlier today if you need them.
Readers, what’re your experiences thus far? Did you get a taste of Oreo? If so, how’d you get it? Via OTA or with the factory images? Hit us in the comment thread with your thoughts, and we’ll be sure to update you once the coast is clear and folks are successfully installing these OTAs.
